Some days ago I sent an illustration to a manga contest. It was the very first time I did something into manga in a professional mode, aside from fanarts and other drawings only for fun. Well...today I received a mail announcing me that I won the contest. It's kinda weird, my first manga drawing makes me winner in a contest...but whatthehell! I'm happy!
I assume that my drawing isn't a masterpiece, but well...the important is to participate. or something.
Suppose then that this is the perfect opportunity to broaden the palette? I mean, for someone not into Manga, the final product is impressive. Most of your material revolves around macabre or erotic themes, tailored toward album covers of metal bands. And you're also a tattooist so you get plenty of practice. The sheer number of charcoal and fountain pen pieces in your catalog suggests someone with a comic book aesthetic bubbling under the surface.
So I wholeheartedly endorse your entry into comic book artistry. You don't even need to be the writer--I'm sure you can scavenge someone for a project together--but don't forget that your technique would need a little less detail, except for those times when you want to show off. Graphic novels are starting to become popular so think about where else you want to pull in your talents.
P.S. Your whole catalog is perfectly hideous in a good way. Keep up the good work.
Damn. I too had a few occasions like that. There are some things that just take you by surprise. That doesn't happen too often, I'd savor the moment and move on.
I had no idea, I think I'll just start doing more participating.
I just discovered your art and came to your page to say that your illustrations are fucking awesome.
Also, love the name. Don't know if it's a reference to the Darkthrone demo or to the literary work by CS Lewis, but either way, I dig it.

I've seen some of the crazy manga-style drawings people submit to these contests, and to be completely honest, I would not have expected this one to win. However, that does not detract from how great your artwork is; It is a beautiful picture. Congratulations on the win.
